Upcoming Museum Exhibitions

Ewa Juszkiewicz
Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid, Spain
May 26 to September 6, 2026

Ewa Juszkiewicz (b. 1984, Gdańsk, Poland) reframes the visual tropes of classical European portraiture, engaging in a critical dialogue with canonical representations of feminine beauty. By deconstructing and reimagining women portrayed in historical painting, she recontextualizes these images within a contemporary framework, opening them to new, layered interpretations. Combining a refined, traditional technique with subversive and provocative content, Juszkiewicz creates paintings that are simultaneously grounded in tradition and boldly transgressive.

Chloe Wise
'Extrasensory'
Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger, Switzerland
June 12 to September 6, 2026

In her upcoming solo-exhibition, Canadian artist Chloe Wise explores the sublime through the interplay of film, sculpture and painting. She asks how we perceive reality—and what lies hidden beyond the reach of our senses and language. What we call consensus reality is in truth a shifting field of vibrating waves and particles, shaped into order by perception and storytelling. Yet the very tools that allow us to construct the world also blind us to what cannot be named. Drawing on philosophy, mythology, and contemporary culture, Wise reflects on phenomena that resist definition, from the poetic to the uncanny, from angels to UFOs. The exhibition opens a dreamlike space where metaphor and imagination invite us to approach the ineffable—experiences that remain beyond words, yet profoundly felt.

This major exhibition premieres a new body of work by Taryn Simon. The project will bring together never-before-seen photographs, text, videos, and sculptures in a singular, interactive installation filling the entire Rotunda. Simon is widely recognized for her storytelling, which directs our attention to the whispers and unseen forces shaping the worlds we inhabit. On view during the 250th anniversary of the United States, her new project will gather a massive constellation of images around a sweeping narrative that spirals through the space. Visitors will choose their own pathways through the whirlwind Simon has assembled.
