Born in 1996 in Los Angeles, Valice pursued studies in neuroscience before turning to painting as a self-taught artist, developing her practice independently in search of a more expansive approach to the subjective realities of human nature, central to her artistic purpose.

A multidisciplinary american artist, Jess Valice is best known for her psychologically charged figurative paintings. Her work navigates vulnerability and belonging, constructing portraits that feel at once intimate and estranged. Working at the threshold between figuration and abstraction, she privileges atmosphere over narrative certainty, allowing ambiguity itself to become a space for introspection.

Her intimate portraits often blend humor with emotional tension. Each subject appears suspended in a moment of interior reckoning, their gaze withholding as much as it reveals. Valice paints the emotions that are often left unspoken: the quiet fear of exposure, the longing to be seen, and the fragile performance of selfhood.

Valice’s work has been presented in notable exhibitions including 'Home is Not a Place' (Almine Rech, Paris, 2025), 'Mara' (Almine Rech, New York, 2024), and 'Good Grief' (Bill Brady Gallery, Los Angeles, 2021). Her work has also been featured in major international art fairs, including Art Basel Miami Beach, Art021 Shanghai, and Frieze Los Angeles.
