Katja Strunz

The works of Katja Strunz bear the traces of lived experience, of a past that manifests itself through the use of recycled materials. Her sculptural practice, seeped in history, finds its roots in the constructivists and avant-gardes. While elegant in their construction, the sculptures also retain a handmade aspect, revealing their aging over time. With the collages, she discovered the “constructivist spectre” - a random arrangement of scraps of paper that was left over from something she had been working on. Since then collages have formed the basis of her work. The artist has been focussing on the relationship between space and time in various bodies of work that are all consecutively related.
