Alberto Giacometti / Ali Cherri ENVISAGEMENT

The exhibition "ENVISAGEMENT" will feature a dialogue between the works of Lebanese artist and video-maker Ali Cherri and those of Alberto Giacometti, one of the great masters of modern art. Ali Cherri shares with Alberto Giacometti a particular interest in the representation of the human head. In this dialogue, the artist will explore the notion of 'envisagement', a term that refers both to the action of envisioning something and also to the evocation of the face.

This double meaning is particularly striking in Giacometti's sculptures and paintings, in which the human face is both the subject of constant research and the product of a work in progress.

This exhibition will present new works by Ali Cherri, most of them specially conceived for the occasion. These new creations will interact with the rich selection of paintings, sculptures and drawings by Alberto Giacometti from the Fondation's collections. 

L’exposition « ENVISAGEMENT » présentée à l’Institut Giacometti met en dialogue les oeuvres du plasticien et vidéaste libanais Ali Cherri et celles d’Alberto Giacometti, un des grands maîtres de l’art moderne. Partageant avec Giacometti un intérêt particulier pour la représentation de la tête humaine, l’artiste explore la notion d’« envisagement », terme faisant à la fois référence à l’action d’envisager quelque chose, mais également à l’évocation du visage.

Ce double sens trouve un écho particulièrement marquant dans les sculptures et les peintures de Giacometti où la face humaine est le motif d’une recherche incessante autant qu’une réalisation en devenir. 

Cette exposition dévoilera de nouvelles créations d’Ali Cherri conçues spécialement pour l’exposition, pour la plupart d’entre elles. Ces oeuvres inédites entreront en résonance avec la riche sélection de peintures, sculptures et dessins d’Alberto Giacometti, issus des collections de la Fondation.
