In June 2025, Nice will host the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 2025). This international summit will bring together leaders and governments from all over the world to debate and decide on the future of our planet. To mark the occasion, the City of Nice is placing its 6th Arts Biennial under the banner of the Ocean, bringing together cultural players, institutions and partners around this project.
"As host city of the 3rd United Nations Conference on the Oceans, Nice has a duty to use its cultural programme as a lever for understanding and embracing the issues raised by the summit. Our aim is to touch hearts and minds, so that we can become agents of change and initiate this essential and inevitable transition," says Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolitan Area and Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region.
This event, now a firm favourite with art lovers and the general public alike, has been exceptionally renamed the 'Biennale des Arts et de l'Océan'. Following on from 'Fleurs !' in 2022, this year's biennial has been given the specific title 'La Mer autour de nous' (The Sea Around Us), borrowed from the work of Rachel Carson, the eminent American marine biologist considered to be a pioneering figure in the field of ecology.
