On the occasion of Tokyo Gendai 2025, Almine Rech presents a focused selection of works highlighting the gallery’s intergenerational program.
The booth brings together a range of artistic voices—from the energetic abstractions of Larry Poons to the dreamlike symbolism of Dylan Solomon Kraus and the illusionistic architecture of Mehdi Ghadyanloo’s works on paper. Figuration is explored across time through the delicate, lyrical presence in Marie Laurencin’s early 20th-century painting, echoed in the contemporary sensibilities of Sam McKinniss’ cinematic portraits and Zio Ziegler’s mythic, psychologically charged compositions.
Material experimentation plays a central role: Dustin Yellin’s densely layered glass sculptures fuse science and fantasy, while Gregor Hildebrandt's cassette tapes merge sound and form.
A special highlight includes John Giorno’s seminal Dial-a-Poem, shown alongside a selection of his stark black and white text works, drawing a powerful connection between language, sound, and visual rhythm.
Together, these works create a dynamic conversation between figuration, abstraction, and conceptual thought across generations.
