James Turrell began to realize works in a new series entitled Tall Glass in 2004.
Tall Glasses are the result of James Turrell’s research, started in the mid 60s and already historic, on color and light as materials and the perceptions of the human eye, combined with his past ten years of research on applying computer programming to his work. This technique is an aspect that Turrell developed for light works conceived for buildings (the Zug train station in Switzerland and the Peugeot Design Center in France, for example).
A Tall Glass is a modular light sculpture that synthesizes his research in a form that has a concentrated volume. Each of the works in this series is unique and features a specific computer program that lasts approximately one hour and thirty minutes.
