The exhibition 'Madrid Collects. 50 Contemporary Art Collections' is an initiative by CentroCentro seeking to highlight the essential role of the active collector as a cultural agent within the city’s artistic ecosystem. The exhibition shines a spotlight on the collector as a key figure in the preservation and enrichment of our cultural and social heritage, highlighting their contribution to the promotion of contemporary art, the support and consolidation of artistic careers, and the strengthening of the art market.
For this project, each collector has selected two works from their collection: one of special personal value and another recently acquired. Through these selections, the exhibition reveals the less visible bonds that connect collectors to their works, while simultaneously mapping out the diverse sensibilities and motivations that guide the practice of collecting.
Featuring a total of 100 works, the exhibition offers an open and diverse journey, quite unrestricted in terms of technique or format. Within the galleries, painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, video, and installation coexist, reflecting the richness and plurality of the contemporary art scene, and the dedication and vocation of the men and women who ensure its conservation and future: the collector.
Madrid Collects is the result of a collective effort by its curatorial committee, which includes María de Corral, Joaquín Gallego, Rosina Gómez-Baeza, Julieta de Haro, Lorena Martínez de Corral, Adrián Piera, and Lucía Ybarra.
