Heather Day Hourglass

Nov 7 — Dec 19, 2025 | New York, Tribeca

Opening on Friday, November 7, 2025 from 6 to 8 pm

Almine Rech New York, Tribeca is pleased to present 'Hourglass,' Heather Day's second solo exhibition with the gallery, on view from November 7 to December 19, 2025.

Color, in Heather Day’s paintings, is an index of time. The atmospheric changes, for example, that Day observes from her home in California’s Mojave Desert – especially around sunrise and sunset – or the seasonal blooms of flora along the Oregon coast both nourish Day’s palette in this new body of work.

Her technique, too, is subject to unyielding temporalities: the slow movement (and seeping interaction) of wet paint across canvas, and the unusually fast drying times caused by the High Desert’s low humidity.

By cutting and stitching sections of vigorously brushed and stained canvas into new, geometric configurations, Day imposes a new structure onto these ephemeral abstractions. Triangles, arranged in geometries that suggest a rotational or sequential unfolding, are slices of time, given rational order – attempts, perhaps, to arrest moments in order to grasp them.

— A press release by Jonathan Griffin, writer, critic, editor, and curator, will follow.
