Our perception and language both construct reality and limit what we can comprehend, leaving phenomena beyond our cognitive frameworks invisible to us. Throughout history, humans have interpreted sublime encounters through cultural filters—what early religious texts described as Seraphim, and Renaissance artists depicted as divine messengers or angelic beings, might now be interpreted as UFO phenomena, not because the experiences have changed, but because our linguistic frameworks have evolved. This new series of paintings references art historical works by Caravaggio and El Greco—moments where humans looked skyward in awe at the celestial unknown—while simultaneously engaging with Spielbergian cinematic language and the mediatization of modern encounters. These seemingly different supernatural manifestations might represent the same underlying phenomenon, perceived differently across time and belief systems. What we label as divine or extraterrestrial could be interpretations of larger "hyperobjects" that transcend our categorical thinking, shapeshifting as our conceptual tools transform. Scientific materialism and ordinary language ultimately fail when confronting truly ineffable experiences, leaving some aspects of reality fundamentally inaccessible, the way we cannot imagine a new color.
