How To Improve The World, 60 Years of British Art

Sep 7 — Nov 19, 2006 | Hayward Gallery, London, UK

How to Improve the World  (the title taken from one of the exhibits, an installation by the artist Cerith Wyn Evans), was curated by Michael Archer, Head of School Ruskin School of Fine Art, Oxford and Roger Malbert, Senior Curator Hayward Touring.

The show brought together some of the most important acquisitions from six decades and drew from all different media.  Highlights included Francis Bacon’s Head VI 1949, Barbara Hepwoth’s Icon 1957, Bridget Riley’s Movement in Squares 1961, Damien Hirst’s He Tried to Internalise Everything 1992-94 and Steve McQueen’s Bear 1993.
