Ryan Schneider

American artist Ryan Schneider has experimented with various art forms which reflect his appreciation of raw materials and celebrate Mother Nature. Often painting both sculptures and canvases with oil pigment sticks, the idyllic ecosystem of Joshua Tree emphasizes Schneider’s love for his surroundings. Inspired by tree spirit mythology and German expressionism, Schneider’s sculptures are angular and sharp, while the wood elements and enticing color palette hints at the gentleness of wilderness and primal human instincts. The indigenous admiration within Schneider’s art references various pre-Christian traditions; Shinto, Polynesian Tiki, and Native American elements are apparent in his works and bring forward a totemic and meditative sophistication.

Ryan Schneider was born in Indianapolis, IN and holds a BFA from The Maryland Institute College of Art. His work is held in public and private collections worldwide, including the Palm Springs Museum of Art, the Xiao Museum of Contemporary Art, The Hall Art Foundation and the Bank of America Collection. He has been reviewed or featured in The New Yorker, Art in America, The Brooklyn Rail, Juxtapoz, ArtForum, and The Paris Review, among other publications. Schneider lives and works in Joshua Tree, California.
