Jonathan Gardner is a New-York based artist known for his depictions of stylized figures in their leisurely worlds. Gardner’s richly colored paintings are filled with nonchalant figures against flattened space, adding to the surreal, uncanny air of the works. Drawing from the aesthetics of modern art, his painting sets up an absence of hierarchy between the motifs, combining several realities: landscape, portrait and still life.
Gardner received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York, and his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2017, he was finalist candidat for the Prix Jean-François Prat.
Jonathan Gardner was featured in a group presentation at Almine Rech Paris, Turenne, from October 12 to November 16, 2019.
Born in 1982, Jonathan Gardner lives and works in New York City.
